Olusegun Odegbami is a retired Nigerian footballer that had an illustrious footballing career in the 1970s and 1980s. He was nicknamed “Mathematical 7” for his precise style and speed of play. He was named the third-best player in 1977 and second best player overall in Africa in 1980. Coincidentally, it was in that same year of 1980 he captained the Nigerian senior team at 1980 Olympic games. All in all, Odegbami is regarded as one of the greatest Nigerian players of all-time.
Till date, Segun Odegbami remains a relevant force within Nigeria through his many endeavours for the government, sports bodies, clubs and corporate organisations.
All of this adds to the reason he was awarded a national honour– Member of the Order of the Niger [MON] and was made a Sports Ambassador in 1998 as well as an inductee into Nigeria’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Odegbami has a vast array of knowledge and experiences garnered not only as a football player but also as a grassroots developer, journalist, publisher, author, businessman, researcher, marketer, athlete manager, administrator and educationist.
